/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Religious leaders in Denmark who perform legal marriages face new scrutiny. For eight years, officiants could pass a mandatory democracy course just by attending. They did not need to pass a language test. They did not need to take any written exam.
This course is required for religious leaders outside the National Church. It applies to imams, priests, and other religious officiants. A recent report revealed that people passed without understanding the material. Danish lawmakers now want to introduce strict rules and required tests.
This update is important if you plan to marry in Denmark. Many foreign residents select Denmark for its smooth wedding process. You can choose a civil ceremony or a recognized religious officiant.
If you plan a religious ceremony, verify your officiant has legal approval. Rules for religious officiants may change soon. Civil wedding ceremonies at City Hall remain fully unaffected by these discussions.
